He lost a decade long struggle  with cancer today, he was 65.

Yep.

I think he'd had issues farther back than that. IIRC, he had part of his tongue removed for cancer nearly twenty years ago and it came back later in his throat.

He was definitely one of the legends in the guitar community..... a pioneer in some regards when it comes to specific styles of playing.

I was surprised as hell years ago when I heard him mentioned in a group with Clapton, and, Atkins .

The title of the video is misleading..... EVH never says he invented any style, just took something he saw and made it work for him in his own style.
