i like this one.
he also has a ton of left handed rifles

Practically every thing is in the 4 digit if not 5 digit range, price wise. It’s not within my ROI budget.
Interesting that his estate chose Gun Broker over RIA.
-
RIA takes a pretty big chunk of the cash. Plus from what i understand it takes a long time to get your guns/ money. I personally have never won an auction, but i have bid on stuff. their current buyers premium is 17.5 or 18.5% plust 3.5% if you use a cc. thats 21% on top of the price. bit steep for me. gunbroker on their collectors elite auctions is only a 10% buyers and no sellers fees. they are covered by CEA. so there is that aspect of things.

That's good to know. I want auction off my 75th Anniversary PPK and display case, and didn't know who I should go through. I don't think a local auction is the way to go.

Didn't Metcalf get himself in some "Uncle Fudd" trouble? I'm remembering he got fired or something...right?

I see an IAI Automag III 9mm Win. Mag. and a couple of Dan Wesson .445 SuperMags, one of them a Prototype Alaskan Guide model. Starline make 9mm Win Mag brass and theree's at least one company selling loaded ammo. The 115 Gr. Lehigh Defense EXT. Penetrator @ 1,550 FPS and 613 FT/LBS sounds like it would be a good load for bear defense, instead of the .45 ACP ammo I have.

Too rich for me but anything the .41 Magnum can do, the 10 Magnum can also do, and perhaps do it even a little faster and a little better. Doubletap, Reed's Ammunition, and Aria all make 10mm Magnum ammo. I wasn't sure anyone did. All 6 loads at Doubletap say it's ONLY for 10mm revolvers that have been modified to fit this cartridge! The weakest of 4 loads at Aria is listed at 1,000 ft/lbs. Reed's 200g Hollow Point is 1,620 FPS and 1,165 Ft-Lbs of energy, but that should be a lot better from a 16" barrel, and it would be an interesting AR conversion for hunting in areas that require straight-wall cartridges. And it could use long, aerodynamic bullets loaded out to .223 OAL. Kase Reeder of Reeder Custom Guns used to make the Ultimate Ten pistol, a 1911 chambered in 10mm Magnum. That would be so cool to have. Starline makes brass that can be necked down to make a couple other calibers.

Speaking of 41 mag...

The .41 Magnum may not be as useless at tits on a boar, but anything it can do the .44 Magnum can do better, and with bigger bullets, plus shoot a lesser caliber when you want to. If it's supposed to be halfway between a .357 Mag and .44 Mag, it should be something like .393 caliber, not .410. At just .019" smaller than the .44, the .41 has no good reason to exist.

No firing pin? I didn’t check.all of the DWs but at least 2 of the 6 I did said the same thing. I also noted several have rust and other imperfections. Either he acquired them that way or didn’t rake good care of them.
-
He did die a couple of years ago. It could very well be they were not looked after for some time. I didn't see the no firing pin deal. That is very interesting. Maybe he was not all there and instead of taking his guns his family just made them not functional. I did that with my grandfather. Could be something else, but just a thought
-
I only looked at the first 6 DWs. I might check some of the SWs later. Could be the estate, in both cases, but removing a revolver firing pin, while not advanced gun smithing, it’s not something you just casually do. A little bit more work than say taking a bolt out of an AR. The only time I’ve removed firing pins for any length of time is when providing guns for stage/video props.
-
Iirc on Dan wessons wheel guns it's just a 1/16" roll pin and it comes right out. It's been a few years since I had my hands on one.
-
There are 5 distinct deigns of Dan Wesson revolvers. This one includes the Model 15-2, which I believe is what I had. It was a 15-something and I don't know if there was a 15-3 or higher. Just one little pin to knock out. If you need a new firing pin, or other parts for a Dan Wesson check this site.

.41 Mag? Part of why I went .450 SMC is comparable ballistics with the bonus of a bigger hole. :D
-
Big holes bleed more! That's one reason .454 Casull is better than .44 Magnum, and .44 Magnum is better than .41 Magnum.
-
Yeah, but good luck building a 1911 in .454 Casull that can be shot by anything but freakishly HUGE hands. My Uncle Frank (the one who hunted SS three days ahead of Patton's front line) could palm a basketball, and even then he preferred more normal sized irons. (He wasn't exactly a gun guy though, TBH, he had his war bringbacks and knew how to use 'em and that was enough for him.)
-
I wasn't suggesting anyone try building a 1911 in .454 Casull, just that it's better than .44 Magnum.
