One thing that has become clear already is that one of the unique aspects of the The Best Defense is the format of somewhat dramatic representations of scenarios being played out and then "critiqued" and improved upon by the hosts. This aspect has caused a little confusion for some of the people who have only seen the trailer that has been available for a couple of weeks now at DRTV!
I've read a couple of emails/comments to the extent of "If that's what they're teaching, its not gonna be worth watching...."
When the show opens in just about every episode, there will always be a "Not Great" response to the problem being addressed and then we will evolve the response through the show, so the openings always look more "dramatic" and establish the point from which we improve. Some people have seen the intro trailer and gotten the impression that the woman is doing exactly what we recommend. This, of course, comes from the expectation that TBD is "just another gun show".... It Is Not!
I really think that once an episode or two airs, everyone is going to really be excited about the approach (and you will likely see it emulated by others in the future!).
Along with response to the content, I am definitely looking forward to the feedback from the way the show has been produced as well!

Great point, Rob.
To build on that, what viewers will see as the season progresses is a progression of the evolution of the show format as well. In some scenarios, they'll see 3-4 different versions of the same situation. Depending upon the level of awareness of the "defender" and the tools he or she has available, the dynamics will change. The ultimate goal is to teach viewers what to look for BEFORE a situation happens so they can avoid it and limit their exposure to danger.
Again, this approach is vastly different than the traditional gun-fu approach--and every other gun-oriented show I've ever seen.
Tune in tomorrow, see the full format of the show in context, and then offer feedback.
Stay safe,
Mike

I know that with MB, Rob P and Mike J the show will be great. BUT....I was wondering if you might want to add some of the female ingredient to the show. My nomination for a lady co-host would be Cindy Garrison. She is familar with firearms, has hunted all over the world, and well....she is a heck of a lot better looking than you three guys :) :) I know she would hold my attention for the full 30 minutes of HD!

Gentlemen,
I just finished the first episode and can summarize my opinion in one phrase...home run.
The level of detailed description is well above the bar established by other, similar shows. Both Rob and Michael kept things simple for the novice shooter and home defender, yet didn't "dumb it down" so much as to be boring for individuals like myself who have studied both subjects for a long time. Michael, I particularly liked the idea of bolting a handgun/light/reload combination onto a board, then mounting the assembly in a fairly accessible location. Great idea and easily overlooked.

What are you whining about?
Of the three M's who gets the most attention and offers on here?

My wife actually watched it with me - and that's a rare thing for anything on "Wednesday night at the range". I think you've got a good show there! ;)

I only have one thing to say about the shows...MAKE IT ONE HOUR LONG (each point on BD and SG were barely touched on). More Please!
