Ginger Beer
« on: November 25, 2012, 07:44:09 PM »

My mother and I used to make this when I was a kid:

I remember it could be extremely explosive  :o using the corks and glass bottles we had available in the early 60's.

I'm going to try a batch, increasing the ginger 'heat' somehow and use the result in my current favourite cocktail, the "Moscow Mule"

Best Wishes, Mike.

I love that cocktail, and I don't even like vodka. But why make Ginger beer when you can buy perfectly good NA stuff in a decent supermarket (Central Market in Austin should have a choice of brands).
Just a thought. I love it too, but I'm happy with the stuff I can buy, though I've never had the homebrew.

One deli in the suburbs used to sell Jamaican ginger beer and I really liked it. Now I have to settle for ginger ale that tastes so weak in comparison. C'est la vie.

It is because you have never had the "homebrew" that you are happy with store-bought.  Try it one time, and you will be totally spoiled.  Same goes with root beer.  The elixir brewed at home is a wonderful concoction unlike anything off the shelves.
