Need AR15 mag pouch recommendations
« on: July 23, 2012, 10:59:34 PM »
I'm finally closing in on obtaining my first AR and have already started to stock up on mags.  For now, I'm sticking to pmags.  I'm looking for a good/reasonably priced mag pouch to carry a few spare magazines.  I don't intend (for now) to play games with the rifle; so, I'm not really looking for a setup specifically for that.  My plans for the rifle are primarily range, home defense, truck gun, and maybe some varmit hunting.  I'm not looking for the latest/greatest tacticool product.  I've looked at some chest rigs and most seem to be marketed to the commandos with a price to match.  I'm generally willing to pay for quality when necessary but prefer a simple and effecient design for this application.  I thought I would ask here and see what yall use, have used, or can come up with.

Surplus stores carry military ones, 3 mags , covered, and clips on a web belt.
And a hell of a lot less than the mallninja crap.

Midway has these, and they look pretty good and are getting good product reviews. I bought one of their sniper drag bags a while back, and they were unbelievably well made for the $65.00 they charge for it. I also got several of their soft, zippered pistol cases that hold spare magazines. They were well made as well. I just ordered some new, in the oil wrapped paper, Polish AK-47, 30 round steel magazine from them. They should be here Friday. If you order from them, I always request USPS Priority Mail on small, light items like cloth magazine pouches. It usually turns out to be faster and cheaper. But you have to ask otherwise they'll choose the shipping method. Usually UPS Basic.

Thanks guys.  Tom, I'll look and see what my local surplus store has available.  Nothing jumped out at me last time I looked, but there may be something there this time.  Billt, those look like they may be perfect for what I want.  I think I'll hold out a couple more days and see if anything else, besides the Louis Vuitton spam, gets recommended.

I'm not sure the Louis Vuitton mag pouches will accommodate 30 round mags. I would call Louis before ordering.  ;D

I use G.I. surplus mag pouches that I cut the grenade holders off of. They're less than 3 bucks apiece here. http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/products_details.asp?SKU=GIM16PO&ST=2

That's one of the best 'surplus' sites I've seen recently Frank, I ordered 4 of the mag pouches, good prices and free shipping too! Thanks,

YW. I was googling to get a picture of the mag pouches and couldn't believe how cheap they were. I think I paid more for used ones.

P.S. It looks like these are used too, but it's still a great price.
