Conservatives have an unlikely hero in someone who lives in a pineapple under the sea. In an upcoming episode of Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants, Spongebob is laid off from his job, yet refuses to become lethargic.

From the New York Post,

Lest he sit around idly, mooching off the social services of Bikini Bottom, a depressed SpongeBob sets out to return to gainful employment wherever he can find it.

No spoilers — but it’s safe to say that our hero doesn’t end up on food stamps, as his patty-making skills turn out to be in high demand.

Learning of Spongebob’s refusal to accept government handouts, conservatives are rallying behind the cartoon pineapple, leaving liberal activists such as Al Sharpton flabbergasted,

“The right-wingers found a new hero in its war against the poor. SpongeBob SquarePants. That’s right. SpongeBob SquarePants. The GOP is now using the lovable cartoon sea sponge as a new way to attack the safety net.”

I suppose the breathless Sharpton is forgetting when his party used Big Bird and other lovable Sesame Street characters in their attacks on Mitt Romney? After the Republican presidential candidate mentioned he’d cut funding to PBS, liberals used his comment to produce ads full of furry friends to negatively campaign against him. Then, they even organized a ‘Million Muppet March’ on the National Mall.
Yeah, Spongebob’s not looking so bad. Tune in to Nickelodeon Monday at 7 p.m. so your kids can understand what hard work looks like.

I don't watch a lot of network TV, but the last few Fridays I've been DVR-ing Last Man Standing on ABC. Being an old fan of Home Improvement with Tim Allen, I figured I'd give this one a try since I just realized (this is the 3rd season) that he had another show. His character is an ultra-conservative, grumpy old man type (many of us can relate).

Anyway, I was watching tonight and his youngest daughter (who takes after him in her ways) took a good pot shot at Obama via a statement about the economy/inflation.

Think you'll start seeing more of this as the carrot on the end of the string starts to rot?
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

The first season of Last Man Standing was a lot more grumpy old man and a lot more lefty hating and was really funny.  Of course, the writers decided to tone it down and now the political stuff is more secondary.
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

"We Americans have been a rebellious band of freedom loving vagabonds from the very beginning. Our freedom from the crown and tyranny would not exist had it not been for the gun. That's a tradition we like to hold on to.  The same can't be said for the rest of you 'Subjects of the Queen'."--said to a Canadian friend who just doesn't get it.
