I bought ANOTHER bunch of knives
« on: August 03, 2023, 04:49:10 AM »
When I ordered that knife from the Gerber Custom Shop, I also ordered a Multi-Plier 600 - Black, Carbide Cutters, Needlenose, Berry-Compliant Sheath, National Stock Number: 5110-01-394-6252 for anyone who's issued one. It has the Patented one-hand opening Multi-plier, and the handles are facing the right way when you squeeze them, unlike a lot of multi-tools where you're squeezing against 2 thin edges of steel on each handle, instead of a wide flat surface.

That and the following knives should be here within the next 12-14 hours, at most.

Quadrant - Bamboo.

Straightlace - Blue.

Jukebox - Tortoise Shell.

GDC Money Clip.

Highbrow Compact - Urban Blue, Plain Edge. No video for this one so I posted a pic.

FAST Draw Tanto, with the lightning-quick F.A.S.T 2.0 opening mechanism.

Spire - G10.

And a CustomFit Dual Sheath to carry a couple things in, like a multi-tool and flashlight, plus it has loops for my tactical pen.

The Customized Assert knife will ship separately in 12-15 business days.

The Spire was in a box for a Pledge. When I saw that, at first I thought I had an extra knife. Then I thought I had the wrong knife. It was the right knife, but the wrong box. They're similar designs, but the Pledge is a 3.7" blade, whereas the Spire is just under 3" (2.93") and perfect for me. The Spire has a sliding lock on the sides that keeps the blade from opening accidentally in your pocket. It's  easy to pull back into the safe position, but harder to push the safety off. It will work in soon enough and ease up. Especially if I put a couple of drops of oil in it and use both hands to work it back and forth repeatedly.

The Spire - Aluminum doesn't have the high-speed, low-drag, go-fast "tactical" holes in the blade that my black one does, and it really looks a lot like the Pledge. Especially when neither one has the black oxide blade.

I'll just post these pics here instead of starting a new thread. This is my oldest knife AFAIK. An Uncle Henry LB7 Bear Paw, made in USA. It was a Christmas gift from my parents about 50 years ago. My younger brother got one too, and maybe it wasn't quite 50 years ago, but must have been close. We would have been 14 and 11 years old on Christmas 1975, and it may have been some other time from 1974-1977 or so. The color of the left and right handle scales aren't even close to matching, which shows quite well in the first 2 pics.

I figured out how to take a picture of the back of the knife which couldn't be balanced. I was digging around the corner of my desk and stuck 2 old hinges I found in the space in the handle. When I pressed one in as far as it would go sideways, the knife stayed upright. I sent an email to Schrade or whoever owns the brand now and asked if they could resharpen my knife since it hasn't been able to cut anything in decades. I told them the edge was so dull I could see it,  it was so bad I could see the whole thing. Then I used a carbide sharpener on it. They said to send pics and I told them I didn't think the pics would show how dull it is, but I just sent them anyway, and I'll see what they say. The blade has no side to side play at all after I did some hammering on it one year, but the lock must be worn. The blade moves up and down a little bit. It would be nice to get that fixed, even if they do put Chinese parts in my American knife. But the blade is so dull I think it needs to be reground.
