Taurus OSS Longslide- Anybody?
« on: September 05, 2008, 04:48:17 PM »
So I'm just starting to think that IF I trade in or sell my POS SR9 I'd like to get another pistol but here are the parameters. I won't have a lot of money because I'll get my butt beat on the SR9 (IF I can find someone to buy it).

I'd like something in 9mm that's got a longish barrel- not looking for carry (duh...NJ?) I'm looking for something that I can shoot at 25 yd at the range and maybe hit something.

The Taurus 24/7 OSS 45 was the one developed for the military purchase that never came through. Now you can get a 9 mm with (I think ) 5.2" barrel for under $500.

Has anyone any experience with these guns? OR any suggestions that would fit the bill? I can always go around looking at used, etc. but it's nice to think about new stuff.
Of course I'm still hoping (but not holding my breath) that Ruger will buy my SR9 back since I'm just so damn whiney.

Another question...I know MB is sponsored by Ruger, but maybe he could reach into the company a ways and inquire if they know of anyone who can do a trigger job on these things and make them worth keeping.

Or maybe I should try a trigger job myself. What the hell- I don't like the gun and it's worth next to nothing...maybe I'll just play doctor.

I have a 9MM 24/7. It's not a tack driver, but still a fun day at the range. I think the difference between the OSS and the standard 24/7 is the barrel length and ambi controls.

Jay, like CJS3, I have a Taurus 24/7 9MM and it never gave me any problems from when I toke it out of the box, it has 2000+ rds through it.  If I am able to get the funds, I will get the OSS in 45.  Sorry about the trouble your having with SR9.

Jay, a guy I work with has Millennium pro in 9mm he loves it, the only problem he had is that the ONE screw that holds the front sight worked loose. A little locktite and he was back in business. Due to muzzle flip if I got one I would want a longer barrel, so it sounds like you have found a winner.

Jay, I have two Taurus handguns, and both are good, servicable weapons.   Having said this, I would recommend that you take a trip up to that shooting range in Monmouth County that rents guns, and try some out.  I know it's difficult in that state you still insist on living in  ::) but the  Springfield XD and even Glocks offer a long slide auto that you might even like better then the 24/7.
For the money, the Taurus is a very good value, depends on how much you want to shell out.

Thanks. I'm always thinking.... I had my eye on the STI longslide when I was thinking about a 1911, but the guy at our local store talked me out of it (the 1700 tag did too). I ended up with a Sig GSR that I love so it worked out.
It woudl be nice to have something in 9mm with a long barrel, though.

Once our life is less complicated maybe we'll day trip up to Momouth. Its always fun shooting stuff you've never touched before.

I can't say enough for the Taurus 24/7 OSS that purchased. I bought the .40cal. and have put approx. 800 rds though it in the course of about three weeks. I love it. My OSS is a nail driver out of the box and it shoots like a dream. I serve in the Armed services of the United States of America (to protect myself from any legal stuff I won't say what branch) and can honestly say that my OSS outperforms the pistols I get to use. I love it I love it I love it.
