Here is the response I received from Wal-mart concerning their new firearm policy:

Dear Scott,

Wal-Mart understands its role as a leading, responsible retailer in the
 U.S. and is making strides to strengthen its already existing security
 processes to help combat illegal gun activity in the communities we
 serve.  Wal-Mart has a long and proud history of offering the products
 hunters and outdoorsmen want and need and that will not change.

It is important to note that these procedures should not impede
 law-abiding citizens from purchasing firearms at our stores that sell them.
  These processes merely provide us, as a retailer, an additional
 mechanism to assist law enforcement when illegal activity occurs.

We are hopeful these enhanced processes  with help from law enforcement
 and other retailers committing to do the same  can make a positive
 difference in our communities.

I'm lucky enough to live where Wal-mart isn't my only choice. I have purchased my last anything from them. That's about all I can do. It won't hurt them, but I sure will feel better.

Send them an update every quarter listing receipts, stores you spent money at, and make the point you are not spending that money at Wal-Mart. And do be sure to tell them why.

They may - may - eventually get the message.

Yeah, that is if you can get the same high-level person to read it every time and not someone in Pakistan or Mexico or who the hell knows where else. Walmart is a giant. They think by doing this they are giving the general public a warm and fuzzy feeling about their good corporate responsibility after all the negative press they've received about illegal labor practices,etc. I think where they missed is the only ones who will read that gun sales crap or care are the former Walmart gun buyers. I don't buy guns there, but I do buy Hi-Viz targets from time to time. Well, not any more. Other stores have them for a couple pennys more. This day and age only an idiot would knowingly get himself filmed buying a gun anywhere. That's why I would never buy a gun from a large store such as Walmart. Gun sales probably are a drop in the huge bucket for Walmart. It probably wouldn't matter to them either way if they never sold another one.
