Skeeter's .44 Mag
« on: November 14, 2024, 11:18:57 AM »
I've been on the wagon, auction wise, for some time, but that doesn't mean I don't visit the salons once in a while.
<side note, God forbid I ever have go on the wagon for real.   I can't have grapefruit because of my meds which negates one of my favorite drinks.  If I had to cut Bourbon it would be the end of the world.>

Rock Island Auction is having a collectables auction, as opposed to a workables I suppose.  And Skeeter Skelton's .44mag is up for grabs.  You'll need $35k to $55k to participate. He was one of my favorites.

Nice looking .44. Visiting salons to get your hair done?

If you can't have grapefruit juice because of cholesterol pills, there is an answer to the problem. Quit taking that kind of meds and give yourself an injection of Repatha every 2 weeks. I have auto-injectors I press against my thigh nd push a button on the end. I hold it there 15 seconds to make sure it's done, which only takes about half that time. As long as I pull my skin tight or squeeze it together everything works great. I gave myself a shot with something else once and don't think I pulled my skin tight. That one stung a bit. Now I drink Tequila Palomas and eat ruby red grapefruit whenever I want to.

You know...when it's cold this winter and I don't want to get out I'm going to lookup some of Skeeter's old articles.  I would appreciate them more now.

When I was younger I paid more attention to Jack O'Conner and Grits Gresham.  I liked Pat McManus as well.  I also really like Jim Carmichel who is a gun and hunting writer.

I got the Guns & Ammo Annual for a few decades, starting with the 1977 issue when I was in high school. I read those and my American Rifleman magazines, pretty much cover to cover. The only time I read anything else was in the barbershop, doctor's office, etc. I used to like the This Happened to Me! page in Outdoor Life. I remember reading one a long time ago where a few bobcats jumped out of a tree on a guy and attacked him when he was walking by.:o That's enough to ruin anyone's day.

When Skeeter passed, my dad asked me if I ever heard of him.  "DAD!"  I told him how Skeeter was my favorite gun writer.  Then my dad dropped on me that he and mom use to hang out with Mrs. Skelton on their trips.  Seems my parents and Skeeter's wife had some of the same interest and would go to hobby/collector conventions together.  Dad said Skeeter didn't share the same interests as his wife and never came along.  He and mom had met him only once.  I was floored.  ALL THOSE YEARS I NEVER KNEW THIS.

If you're curious, I think it was thimble collecting, the shared hobby.  My folks edited the definitive coffee table picture book on the subject which was how the financed many of their trips abroad.
