Antoine Baril's One Man ELP played on Keith Emerson's personal keyboards is amazing. He plays the parts of all 3 band members.

But Rachel Flowers' playing is indistinguishably from Keith Emerson. She's a prodigy according to many people and a savant with a visual, not social or intellectual, impairment by my judgement, but when she's happy she bounces with joy like a chubby little baby. She's completely blind and plays by ear. She can listen to something once or twice and reproduce it note for note. She can also improvise on anything she hears. I saw a movie about her called Hearing Is Believing over the weekend and learned some things about her I didn't already know. Like, she taught herself the flute, and and plays guitar among other instruments. So she's a multi-instrumentalist who reads music by braille, but doesn't even need to do that. And she's a composer too. The movie is available on Peacock and YouTube. I just found out she plays the Chapman Stick too.

Here are some of the songs she plays by ELP, and The Nice, Keith Emerson's band before ELP.

Frijid Pink is the debut album by Detroit  rock band Frijid Pink. It was originally released early in 1970. Here's their version of House of the Rising Sun, a song which is about 90 years old. No one even knows who wrote iit, but a lot of people have played the song. I think most people are familiar with The Animals version which came out in 1964 on their debut album, The Animals. The Frijid Pink single was released in 1969 and hit #7 in the U.S., #3 in Canada, #4 in the U.K., #1 in Germany, and #15 in Australia. Other American bands with a hit like that play all over the U.S., but Frijid Pink played al over the world. They were such a popular band at the time that Led Zeppelin opened for THEM.

I just listened to a couple different women playing rock songs, etc. on electric violins. Here's one of them.

Here's a young lady who playis modern songs on an ancient style guzheng (Chinese plucked zither). Here's her version and the original version of a Linkin Park song.

The third line of the song Our House by Madness is, "The kids are playing up downstairs". I never knew what it meant and wondered if up down stairs was some kind of game they were playing. It turns out that playing up is British slang for behaving badly, misbehaving, or acting up. So, the kids were acting up downstairs. The song is from their fourth studio album, The Rise & Fall, 1982. They're an English ska and pop band who formed in 1976. One of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s two-tone ska revival, they continue to perform with six of the seven members of their original line-up. Their most successful period was from 1980 to 1986, when the band's songs spent a total of 214 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, holding the record along with English reggae group UB40 for most weeks spent by a group in the UK singles chart during the 1980s. For the record, I hate UB40. The only song of theirs I can think of is a remake of Red Red Wine, originally written, performed and recorded by Neil Diamond in 1967 that appears on his second studio album, Just for You.

In 1981, Madness's third studio album, 7, reached number 5 in the UK Albums Chart and contained three hit singles: "Grey Day" (no. 4, April 1981), "Shut Up" (no. 7, September 1981), and "Cardiac Arrest" (no. 14, February 1982). In an article in 1979, Chris Foreman explained that the band's music would move with the times, and change styles as time goes on. This was shown to be the case, as unlike the two ska-filled, fast-paced albums that preceded it, 7 was something of a change in direction. Suggs' vocal performance changed significantly. The album strayed from the ska-influenced sound of One Step Beyond... and Absolutely and moved towards a pop sound; a trend that continued with subsequent studio albums.

I've heard One Step Beyond... before, without the half minute intro in the video and never cared for it. And I've heard Our House lots of times, again without the half minute intro in the video, and liked it. Mainly for the way it starts with a guy hammering away on the piano, one of my favorite instruments, followed soon after by the bass, and then all the horns. Why horns? That's just how ska music is, and since that's all they played for 6 years before this album came out, the horns are there. In case anyone wants to hear Red Red Wine, I'm posting the original, and the remake which I won't listen to, for anyone who wants to hear white guys playing reggae music. I only like 1 of these 4 songs, so I can't call this a music recommendation. It's more like a recommendation of what to avoid, but I was finally curious enough to find out what playing up downstairs meant and thought I'd share it.

The song Martha's Madman from Watch the eighth album by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, 1978, started running through my head for no apparent reason. There are 7 songs;  "Circles", "Drowning on Dry Land/Fish Soup", "Chicago Institute", "California", "Davy's on the Road Again" (Live), "Martha's Madman", and "Mighty Quinn" (Live).

Here's everything but Mighty Quinn. If you haven't heard it enough times in you life, it's easy enough to find. There was an Eskimo named Clint in my company in Germany, so I referred to him as Clint the Eskimo. AKA The Mighty Clint. It'is the first album recorded with new bassist Pat King, and the final album for both guitarist Dave Flett and original drummer Chris Slade. Manfred Mann is on keyboards and Chris Thompson is the the main vocalist, as usual.

Last week I heard the name Cuisinart on a TV commercial or something. https://www.cuisinart.com/ I immediately thought of Weird Al's song Buy Me a Condo from his 1984 album "Weird Al" Yankovic in 3-D. In the song, the first thing he's gonna buy after a condo s a Cuisinart. Back then, French luxury sports fashion company Lacoste sold, among other things, a T-shirt with their green Crocodile logo on it. https://www.lacoste.com/us/ It's hard to believe it's been 40 years since this album came out. I get a funny little T-shirt wit' de alligator on.

Gonna buy me a condo
Gonna buy me a Cuisinart
Get a wall-to-wall carpeting
Get a wallet full 'o credit cards
I gonna buy me a condo, never have to mow de lawn
I gonna get me da T-shirt wit' de alligator on

Wo, used to live in Jamaica But I don't live dere no more
Had to change me lifestyle
Do t'ings I never done before
So now I'm just a lonely Rastaman
Living in dis American town
Gonna sell me Bob Marley records
Gonna get me some Jackson Browne

I gonna buy me a condo
Gonna buy me a Cuisinart
Get a wall-to-wall carpeting
And get a wallet full 'o credit cards, eh
I gonna buy me a condo, never have to mow de lawn
I gonna get me da T-shirt wit' de alligator on

Wo, gonna cut off me dreadlocks
T'row away all me ganja
I'll have a Tupperware party
Maybe join me a health spa
I'll get a bowl of plastic fruits
And a microwave oven, too
Then I'll have the neighbors over for a weenie barbecue

Gonna buy me a condo
Gonna buy me a Cuisinart
Get a wall-to-wall carpeting
Get a wallet full 'o credit cards, oh
I gonna buy me a condo, never have to mow de lawn
I get a funny little T-shirt wit' de alligator on

Ain't gonna work in de field no more
Gonna be Amway distributor
Ain't gonna work in de field no more (no, no)
Gonna be Amway distributor

(Ja) Ja, ja, ja, life is so very hard
I need a (ja) ja, ja, ja jacuzzi in me back yard

Oh, I gonna buy me a condo
Gonna buy me a Cuisinart
Get a wall-to-wall carpeting
Get a wallet full 'o credit cards, eh
I gonna buy me a condo, never have to mow de lawn
I gonna get me da T-shirt wit' de alligator on

What'd you say?

I gonna buy me a condo
I gonna buy me a Cuisinart
Get a wall-to-wall carpeting
Get a wallet full 'o credit cards, oh
I gonna buy me a condo, never have to mow de lawn
I gonna get me da T-shirt wit' de alligator on
