Tennessee Restaurant Carry
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:49:05 AM »
This Bill SB/HB 3012 would allow permit holders to carry where alcohol is served, was vetoed by the Governor.  Then went back to the Senate and they overrode the veto, then to the House where they also overrode the Governor's veto 61 to 30.  It is now law where you can carry concealed where alcohol is served, unless posted.

What are the rules/laws concerning posting in Tennessee?

In Minnesota if it is posted, and you carry, and they find out, and they ask you to leave, you must.  However, if they don't know/find out there it is ok to carry.  Kinda a Second Amendment "don't ask don't tell."

Why did the governor veto it? I can't imagine that there is a big enough anti-gun lobby that he would take that kind of political risk. Its a lot esier to denounce it and then "acceed to the will of the majoity, however misguided they may be" and let it become law without his signature. Getting a veto overidden is definately going to limit his power. Who wanted this? The restaurant lobby out of liabilty fears?

The governor vetoed it because he said guns and alcohol don't mix.  If you carry in TN you cannot drink.  With this Bill and signage rule has changed, they can now post with just gun, circle and slash, or veribage written according to the law, or both.  Must be posted on all doors customers use.  Not sure what the penaty are, the only one I do know is if you drink while carring it is a year in jail, $2500 fine and loss of permit for three years.

The big cities in TN - and their papers - tend to be uber-liberal and the papers in particular have been railing against this bill for some time.

Say Uncle (http://www.saysuncle.com/) is in TN and his blog has covered this matter extensively.
