Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.
It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.
-William Pitt, British Prime-Minister (1759-1806)

I'm watching the first episode of The Agency, and the song It's not Easy by Ofege started playing. It's from their debut album, 1973's Try And Love. They were an Afro Rock band from Lagos, the largest city in Nigeria, and the most populous urban area on the African continent. Within a couple of seconds I thought this sounded like Dear Mr. Fantasy off Traffic's 1967 debut album, Mr. Fantasy. Am I right?

The Steve Miller Band albums Fly Like an Eagle (1976) and Book of Dreams (1977) have something unusual in common. The first song on each album is an instrumental that you rarely hear played without the second song (Fly Like an Eagle and Jet Airliner). And they both have another instrumental or two on side 2 of the album. If you're ever tempted to buy Steve Miller's Greatest Hits 1974–78 that came out next, don't bother. It has The Joker (1973) plus 13 tracks from Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams. But if you just buy those 2 albums you get 24 songs instead of 14. Steve Miller plays the synthesizer parts on both albums, an ARP Odyssey is an analog synthesizer introduced by ARP Instruments in 1972, a direct competitor to the Moog Minimoog on the first album, plus another guy on a Hammond B-3 electric organ on 2 songs. And he plays an unknown synthesizer on the second, plus another guy plays synthesizer on it.

Anyone who can sing that good and plays a guitar solo, plus has Michael McDonald singing backup vocals, deserves more respect than I think he gets. It was his first single from his debut album that won a Grammy Award. It reached number two on the US charts for four consecutive weeks. The only song above it was "Call Me" by Blondie. I bought that album, because I'm not always in the mood for metal that will melt your face off. A few more songs from the 5× Platinum selling album were Say You'll be Mine, Sailing, and Never Be the Same.

And speaking of Sailing:

English heavy metal band Saxon released a cover of Ride Like the Wind as the first track on their 1988 album Destiny. And Norwegian hard rock and heavy metal singer Jørn Lande released a cover on his 2012 album Bring Heavy Rock to the Land. I heard the first one before but never heard the second one.

And Belgian DJ Laurent Wéry released a cover version of the song, which features vocals from Joss Mendosah. I never heard this before and don't care for it.
