Depends on distance to the satellite from the pulse generation point.  The EMP generated by a nuke in space benefits from the atmospheric Compton scattering effect.  I suspect but do not know that the EMP going upwards towards a satellite would be far less and dominated by the blast generation with no help from Compton scattering and greatly reduce the distance required to affect electronics.  Not much of an answer...

I think the shielding on these things military is so good the EMP generated would have to be very close to the device affected.  Not much of an answer but I do know that our US equipment has some shielding and design elements to mitigate an EMP.

Back to the OP - not to correct the drift which is interesting - but to relate something.

The Vegetable in the WH made the statement to ABC in Normandy that Russia had lost 310,000 soldiers. I was startled that he was even able to say that, and wondered where the heck he got that number. Turns out, he likely just made it up, or rather his handlers/programmers made it up. Even the boy-toy dancer who runs the Ukraine these days is saying HIS number is around 180,000 Ruskies dead, and that is likely high as well.

There are channels on Youtube (e.g. Suchomimus) that do show some rather interesting scenes of combat with HIMARS or drone strikes taking out missile launchers, MIGs and SUs on the ground, and sea drones crippling or sinking what's left of the Russian navy in the Black Sea that hasn't been moved east.

Now back to the drift already in progress . . . . .

High-rises in the city of Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia got "9/11ed" by Ukrainian drones. It's a major hub for Russian military manufacturing, including a gunpowder plant and the Kazan Aviation Plant. Kazan is 850 mile NE of Kiev. It's about time the Ukrainians took the fight home to the Russians.
