10/22 Black Friday Special
« on: December 19, 2024, 04:02:03 PM »
From the Black Friday Thread.

Did some checking.  Ruger has 26 models of the 10/22, PLUS another 28 distributer versions.  And that doesn't count 3rd party versions not listed.  While there's a version for every taste, I got to wonder if having so many variations is self-defeating.  Bud's has 44 variations In Stock, but that includes discontinued models.

My model is under the Carbine selection.  Model 31210.  Cheapest one they make with an MSRP of $369.99.  The store was selling it for $219.99.  That's 40% off!  Bud's sells it for $209, btw, but anyplace else is closer to $279

I got the Ruger trigger group in and installed.  Miss Kitty is holding the barrel and stock for Christmas.   I've weighed everything as it came, (4.4# btw) and am anxious to get it together.  Day after Christmas I'll post pictures and full weight details.  <wishLes were still here>   I'll shoot it in January's Steel Challenge.

I was looking at the Fletcher Open Top 11/22 last year. You can pop the top off and take the bolt out to clean it a lot easier than a standard 10/22. I was also looking at the Desert Tech Trek-22 bullpup conversion. The 2 things are mutually exclusive, and I think I'd rather have a bullpup with a composite bull barrel. But the 11/22 receiver would be great in a non-bullpup.

Ruger, obviously hearing about stellar build out, felt threatened and has introduced two new light weight models.  Neither will take a front sight.  The competition model still weights over 4# and MSRP over $1k.

The barrels appear interesting and I wonder if they are going to be offered in the new 21 Sharp rimfire?

The 10/22 Takedown Lite doesn't have sights OR a Picatinny rail. It should have a rail built in like some of its clones do. They make the Competition Model in left-handed versions, with a chassis or regular stock with adjustable cheek rest. That's unusual for a semi-auto of any caliber. My best friend and his wife are both wrong-handed, or mixed-handed, but I think their sons are both right-handed. There was 1 in 4 chance they'd be left-handed too. IIRC my left-handed friend shoots right-handed. I remember him chopping down big weeds with his Marlin .22.

I hope the .21 Sharp gets the industry support it should and catches on. The .22 LR is 137 years old and still uses heeled bullets like the 179 year old BB Cap. A modernized version of .22 RF is WAY overdue.

As a left-hander, my main objection to the 10/22 and Charger is its wrong-sided ejection - I just find it more natural to work bolts and other away-from-trigger-area controls with my non-trigger hand. Threw an 07/SOT friend a curveball when I did that on his AK...
