Top and bottom.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. I said before that my AR-15 A2 Sporter II rifle was a lot like a Colt Canada (Diemaco then) C7 rifle issued to the Canadian military. It was also issued to British Special Forces, Pathfinder Platoon, and Brigade Patrol Troop (BPT). It beat the SA80 bullpup they were otherwise stuck with. So, how close are these 2 rifles? Mine is semi-auto only instead of select-fire, of course. It has the Colt large pivot pin with screw heads on both sides, which I replaced with a quick release pin a long time ago. Since it doesn't have a normal pivot pin, it doesn't need a pivot pin retainer and spring, or a place to fit them in the receiver. So the lower is a slab-side, with no fence around the mag release either. Other than that, it's pretty much the same thing, which is more like an M16A1E1 than an M16A2.

Diemaco changed the trapdoor in the buttstock to allow easier access to the storage compartment inside the stock. The carrying handle and rear sight assembly are an M16A1 style two aperture L-type flip rear. But the sights they came up with were slightly different from mine. Mine had an A2 post instead of a slimmer tapered round post. And it had a normal rear aperture without a ghost ring, but I replaced it with a ghost ring when I put a tritium front sight on. Wikipedia says Diemaco used a 1 in 7 inch rifling twist hammer-forged chrome-lined barrel with a slightly reducing bore diameter over the length of the rifling to increase longevity and accuracy. Mine is 1 in 7" twist chrome lined Colt barrel and that's all I know. The upper has a brass deflector like an A2 rifle but is otherwise all A1. They both have the A2 flash hider, barrel, handguards, delta ring, pistol grip, forward assist, and stock with a spacer in it.

So there was a minor difference in the sights I didn't know about, in addition to the different pivot pin. They're still a lot more alike than different.

I've been waiting all day for FedEx to get here. I ordered a BAYONET MOUNT ASSEMBLY - M-LOK from SIG. It just got here as I was finishing this post. This will use two M-LOK slots, so I have to move my bipod back. It's designed for the MIL-Spec M9 bayonet, so it should fit my SOG BAR15T, and fit my OKC M7 for sure, since the M9 was made to fit what the M7 does. It would be compatible with any handguard that has M-LOK slots. $59.99. By the way, Ontario Knife Company has been purchased and relocated from Ontario, New York to Marion, Virginia.

The only other options I found were the APG Defense Universal Bayonet Mount for $67.99, and the Geissele Super Stabby Bayonet Mount for $150. The APG Defense attaches to a Picatinny rail with at least three available slots. The new Gen 3 design allows you to mount the bayonet in the correct orientation on the right side of your handguard. But I didn't want it on the left or right side. I wanted it on the top or bottom so it would be centered. The Geissele is optimized for the M9 Bayonet and is compatible with Bayonets that interface with the M16 Mil-Spec Bayonet Lugs and front barrel/muzzle rings. It requires 5 Picatinny sections to be mounted. It would work if I bought another Picatinny rail section to attach it to. But it's $150 and out of stock. The SIG bayonet mount costs 60% less, was in stock, and mounts directly to the M-LOK slots, so I don't have to add another rail, and another potential failure point. The least number of connections possible the better. That goes for red dots and other sights too. If you can mount an optic directly, instead of using rings on a mounting plate, riser and adaptor, there are fewer things that can go wrong.

I thought the nuts and screws on the bipod mount were close to the gas block, but they were actually touching. I thought I checked it when I put the handguard on but maybe not. If I didn't put the new bayonet lug on I may not have known it until it started stringing groups really bad. I had to shorten the front screw on the bayonet mount. I screwed both screws down tight on the mount then ground that one down until there was only a thread or so showing. Now it's good.

Everything is so far back that I had to leave the GrovTec rail wrap off, or wrap it around the red dot base. This is the only metal handguard I have, and the only one I'm worried about getting hot, so I had to adapt and improvise like I do so many things. My new bayonet is messed up. It rotates back and forth about 30 degrees on my 20" and 16" uppers. Whe I put my ld bayonet on either upper, it locks up tight like it's supposed to. Only a few things left to add to this upper and its lower, then bore-sighting, etc.
