I wanted to let everyone know about the outstanding customer support I got from Vortex Optics. I had the SPARC II Red Dot mounted on my MechTech CCU with the 37 mm High Mount to absolute co-witness with my folding iron sights. I was working on the gun in my lap, and when I flipped it over the red dot fell off. Somehow I managed to break the mounting screw in two. I don't know if I put too much pressure on the side of it or what happened. There was just enough threads sticking out to get hold of the end of the screw with needle-nose pliers and unscrew it. I asked Vortex if they could send me a a screw or 2. I need one for a spare.

I didn't check my email for a couple days so I didn't know what they were sending me. When I got the 7" cube cardboard box, instead of an envelope I didn't know why they needed a box for 2 little screws. Besides the 2 replacement mount screws, they sent me a Maroon color Rank And File Twill Cap. I was really surprised, but that wasn't all. There was a small plastic bag with nothing in it. I took that out, and the invoice, and there was a steel credit card size bottle opener I can keep in my wallet. Let's see RFID signals go through that! ;)

I asked them what the torque specs were for the screw and they said 20 inch/pounds dry, and 15 inch/pounds if you use Loctite. I used Loctite and think I torqued it down to 20 inch/pounds, so it I over-torqued it, and that may have been what caused it to break. It's a good thing they have an idiot-proof guarantee for people like me.
