Tippmann A5 paintball marker
« on: Yesterday at 04:39:31 PM »
I have a Tippmann A5 paintball marker. It used to look a lot like an H&K MP5K (1st pic). Then I put a Flatline barrel on it that looks like a suppressor. Inside the housing, the barrel curves up from the bottom to the the top so it lofts the ball up in the air, and puts a spin on it like a pitcher throwing a baseball. In this case the spin is straight vertical which gives the ball a LOT more distance as friction makes the ball "climb" the air. They don't call it a Flatline barrel for nothing. It actually flattens out the trajectory. I also replaced the standard trigger with the E-Grip electronic trigger upgrade (2nd pic). It allows you to shoot semi, 3-round burst, 6-round burst, or full-auto, up to 30 balls per second, 1,800 bpm, instead of half that at semi-auto. It wouldn't be able to shoot so fast if the hopper didn't have the power-driven Cyclone feed system (3rd pic). I also took off the foregrip, and the standard gas line (4th pic, shown with tank adaptor) that attaches to the tombstone (5th pic). In it's place I installed a manifold with 8 expansion chambers (6th pic). That gives the CO2 time to warm up and expand as it zigzags from the bottom to the top, so no matter how fast you're shooting, it won't blow liquid CO2 into the gun. After the gas goes through the new "foregrip" it goes straight back through a tube with fins on it, and then up into the tombstone. The tank adaptor allows you to add a plastic buttplate to the CO2 tank if you want to use it as a stock.

A week or so ago, I screwed in one of my CO2 tanks and gas was blowing out all over the place. I replaced a bunch of soft, gummy O-rings with a bag of O-rings I had. They weren't all exactly the right size, but most of them worked. It was still blowing gas out of the tube on the manifold, so I took it off and put the regular gas line on as previously shown. After I put some Teflon tape on one end of the hose everything quit leaking. I had a broken ball latch detent (1st pic) and ordered 2 of them. I took off the E-Grip trigger system and put the stock trigger back on. And I took the Flatline barrel off and put the stock barrel back on. There was something I wanted to try and I didn't want to do it with the curved barrel. CR1233 A batteries are ~.67 caliber, and the marker is .68 caliber, so I thought it should shoot them. I had a pair of old batteries and muzzle-loaded and shot each one a few times in my basement, blowing holes through 1 side of a corrugated cardboard box from ~12' away. It should also shoot .69 caliber muzzleloader round balls since they're usually about .675-.68". They should feed through the hopper but shooting full-auto would probably break the cyclone feed. I haven't tried it, but I did buy 300 reusable hard rubber balls, and 2 ammo pods that each hold 120 balls (2nd pic). I also bought an M4 style stock that replaces the standard end cap assembly (3rd pic). I put a 12 gauge compensator on the barrel just for S&G (4th pic), shown with Flatline barrel. I removed the HK style sights, and reworked the top rail by filing notches in it so I could mount a Firefield green & red circle-dot Impulse optic. Now it looks like the 5th and 6th pics.

I ordered 2 Neoprene sleeves for my CO2 tanks (1st pic), which already had aluminum caps on them protecting the valves and threads. And about a week ago, since I couldn't find my old foregrip (I think I used it for something else), I cut down a Magpul AFG and screwed the half that was left to a nut in the slot between the receiver shell halves (2nd pic).

The stock mounts with 2 quick release pins. The stock fit so loosely on the tube I stuck a few layers of Gorilla tape on it to shim it up. Gorilla tape is extra thick duct tape and I think I have 3 layers of it going around the circular part of the tube, but not the bottom where the length adjustments are.

That's all folks!

P.S. I forgot to mention, I removed the stock adaptor and hose, and screwed the tank directly into the tombstone, instead of having it angle down from the bottom of the grip like a stock.

I looked and looked again and still can't find an expansion chamber anything like the one I had on my A5. There are some like the 1st pic that screw into the tombstone. But mine replaced the foregrip, then ran back to connect to the tombstone like the image I put together in the 2nd pic. I searched for the brand name of what I thought it was the other day and cam up with nothing. I guess it was a semi-custom part and the company went out of business after I got mine.
