Looking for a BUIS for my Bushy A3 Dissipator
« on: October 03, 2007, 09:13:15 PM »
Just picked up this upper, and since all my other uppers are A1 or A2s, I've never had to deal with backup sights. I know that there are some really good ones out there, but I don't want to spend more than about $65 to $80 for one. Can anyone give me advice on these? Which ones to stay away from, which ones are most versatile, etc....

P8riot,
It will kinda depend on what kind of optics your want to run on your rifle.  Can you give us the rundown on your complete setup?

Thanks Erik,

It's a Bushmaster dissipator A3 upper. I have the standard A2 front sight tower and am running an Aimpoint Comp M2 with an ARMS 22M68 mount and riser. I'd like it to co-witness in the lower third of the red dot.

Are you looking for a fixed-rear BUIS or a fold-down for the co-witness?

Prefer fold-down

I would check out either the ARMS 40 or the Troy Industries BUIS.  For a CQB setup I prefer the older ARMS #40, not the #40L.  The older 40's are spring loaded and are very quick to deploy.  The primary difference between the 40 and 40 L is the L has a lower profile to fit under scopes, but it deploys with the small aperature first.  The standard 40 pops up with the large aperature first which is what I prefer.

The other option is the Troy.  I prefer the Troy's for all other applications.  Good, rock solid design.  I like the locking detent that keeps it in place once its deployed.

How does the MATECH compare?

Never used the MATECH, but the fold up portion looks a little fragile compared to the ARMS/Troy.

There are several other companies that make good stuff, I've just gravitated towards the ARMS/Troy stuff.

Midwest Industries (MI) makes a nice flip-up BUIS.  I have one on my Colt 6721.  They are pretty reasonable cost-wise IIRC.
