The US Army is already using something like this. It is the M26. It was featured in Special Weapons for Military and Police a few months back.

As metioned the only practical use would be for breaching.  I would prefer to have a shorty slung over my shoulder then adding to M4.  If added to an M4 than you would also want to use a short barreled 870 to have the muzzle just past the A2FH.  Yes, I've been a breecher.  Another thing if you were taking fire you would probably just keep your finger on the 5.56 trigger and forget about the 870 unless you do extensive training with both.  I forgot all about the M203 trigger when I got shot at the first time and that's what I did until a lull in combat came and then I remembered the 40mm!  (was carrying a M16A2/M203 combo)  Thats why I've prefered an M79 over the M203 for the last 8 yrs.  Once under fire you have a tendency to keep engaging with the weapon in hand until it goes dry or malfuncitons.

The M203 trigger has got to be one of the most awkward triggers ever installed on a military weapon.
And I would bet the this shot gun set up is, If any thing, worse.

That would be a great gun for 3-gun!

Imagine not needing to transition from rifle to shotgun or vice versa.

I'm also thinking eliminating the need to remember counts on shot and slugs.

Practical use ... lethal vs. non-lethal.  Lethal loads in rifle and bean bags in shot gun.  Gives more officers more options.

m-4:  6.9 lb
Shortened 870:  5.5 lb

Total Weight 12.4 lb

Needed:  1) Shoulder sling to keep it off the ground.
              2) pack mule to carry the ammunition.
              3) Bottle of Excederin to treat the back ache of lugging the thing around.

The shotgun underneath the AR-15 serves a better purpose for self defense. Who needs or can purchase a M-203 in the civilian market?

I would love to be the lawyer for the perps family in that law suit.
